open up 04:09
Open up your mouth wide, open up your mouth wide. Open up your blind eyes, Open up your blind eyes. Open up your mouth wide, open up your mouth wide. You were born with the sunrise, Washed in its new light. Without an open hand, and an open mind and an open heart, Nothing gets in from the outside. Open up your mouth wide, Open up your mouth wide, Tell me what I need to hear, To get me to the next night. Open up your bright eyes, Open up those wild eyes, you’re a deer in headlights, And you’ll get eaten alive, if you don’t learn to survive. And I’m mute as the day I’ll die. Cold, keeping still all night. Here you come, I don’t meet your eye And I hope you will pass me by. We were just children when we learned to hide. Without an open hand, and an open mind and an open heart, Nothing gets in from the outside.

wasting 03:40
I got love inside of me, but it’s limited and I’m lazy. And it’s wasting away, wasting away, wasting away. When did it start the disconnect, the misdirecting. When did it stick, when did it cleave, the sickly sweetening? Oh I wish I had a reason to be complicated. I just tried my best and made a mess, like everybody else I guess. Oh, I got love inside of me, but it’s limited and I’m lazy. And it’s wasting away, wasting away, wasting away. When did it stop the showing up, the making of you? When did it seem, oblivion meant nothing to you? Oh I wish I had a reason to be underrated. I just tried my best, not to make a mess, now they’re in love with someone else, I guess. Now they’re all in love with someone else… Oh I got love inside of me, but I don’t know where it should go. And you’re wasting away, wasting away, wasting away. And you’re wasting away, wasting away, wasting away. And you’re wasting away, wasting away, wasting away. Before I turn over x3 I’ll turn to you.

You took the morning after You took the morning after You took the morning after pill. And just when I thought it might not be a complete disaster, The sunlight crept on our window-sill. You took the morning x 4 And it wasn’t easy, but you made sure it was harder, on yourself than it was on me. So I’d keep my mouth shut, it’s not for me to speak up, you’ve had quite enough today, you need rest from your sleep. You took the morning after x 2 You take the morning after, still. And just when I thought I might not be a complete disaster, The sunlight, it gave my bones a chill. You took the morning. The sun it rose, my bones caught cold. Ad Libs: I feel it, I feel it in my bones. Take it every, everywhere I go.

new city 03:29
I made it to a new city, giving my number to perfect strangers. And they’re calling me back, calling me back. I’m making it up to everyone, I’ll be the oldest and latest version of myself all at once. Just hold me back, hold me back. Tell me if I repeat myself, tell me if I repeat myself, So I can draw a line with diamond razor blade. Tell me if I repeat myself, tell me if I repeat myself, cause I wouldn’t mind, hearing it over again. Like living in a dream scene, at any second could all come tumbling, But I’ll ride the crash, ride the crash. Oh you never get a clean break, but I’ve been tending to every fault line, And I’ll walk it back, walk it back. Tell me if I repeat myself, tell me if I repeat myself, So I can draw a line with diamond razor blade. Tell me if I repeat myself, tell me if I repeat myself, I still don’t know if you heard, I still don’t know if you heard, when I told you the silence was more than I could endure. You didn’t say a word, you didn’t say a word it got quieter and quieter. Tell me if I repeat myself, tell me if I repeat myself, So I can draw a line with diamond razor blade. Tell me if I repeat myself, tell me if I repeat myself, I made it to a new city

walk on 03:19
I love a man who, they crowned the king of love Feel the touch of man who, leaves no heart untouched. Like his hand is on their pulse. And it’s your cause, but I’d die for it. Every-time I close my eyes, I see yours lit. You picked a fight, well I’m on your side, I see you walk on open-eyed I shut mine tight. I don’t believe him, when he speaks though at his word, crowds gather they scatter. He will not convince me, hand-on-knee. saying “our time will come, you’ll see.” Like I’m just another devotee. And it’s your cause, but I’ll die for it. Every-time I close my eyes, I see yours lit. You picked a fight, well I’m by your side. I see you walk on open-eyed I shut mine tight. This is too big for one man to carry, with our distance growing greater every day. I dreamed that we got old and ordinary, Now I just stay awake and pray that I won’t walk away.

about

"So he made his remarks and felt entitled to make his remarks and I did not speak because I did not know how to respond to this person.”

Anna Burns, milkman

These songs are inspired by the likes of Milkman, the intense novel by Anna Burns [wasting] the life story of Coretta Scott King (author, leader and wife of MLK) [walk on & bleed] and my own struggles to find a voice in dying friendships [morning after, go quietly, lights out] and a way in new countries [new city, river]

I hope you love it fx
